Roll Call’s editor-in-chief is moving cross-country. The Capitol Hill-based outlet’s editor Christina Bellantoni is moving to California to lead political coverage at the L.A. Times as their new assistant managing editor of politics. Bellantoni has served in her current position at Roll Call since early last year and has said she could have worked there “forever.” She has also reported for “PBS NewsHour,” The Washington Times, Los Gatos Daily News, and the San Jose Business Journal. In a staff memo, L.A. Times editors wrote about adding Bellantoni in the context of other recent changes: “The aim is to create a destination for readers interested in the substance and the theater of California politics, the data and the drama, the big developments and the small but telling moments… To this effort, Christina will bring deep expertise, creativity and a sure feel for where to find readers and how to engage them.” She will start at the L.A. Times on August 10 and says that “after nearly 12 great years in Washington,” being closer to family “was just too tempting to turn down.”
