Award-winning journalist Tracy Jan will join the Washington Post’s Business desk and the Wonkblog team to launch a new race and economy beat next month. Coming from the Boston Globe, Jan will draw from her diverse experience covering education, national politics and health policy in Washington. Before joining the Globe, she covered crime, courts and education at the Oregonian in 2004.
Washington Post economy and business editor David Cho, deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb and assistant financial editor Simone Sebastian call Jan “a consummate journalist whose portfolio shows she has both the wits to delve into topics as complex as nuclear fusion and the empathy to tell compelling human stories as she did when chronicling the experiences of first-generation college students at Harvard University.” Washington Post writers Jim Tankersley and Philip Rucker hailed Jan’s hire on Twitter, tweeting their excitement and welcoming their new colleague.
