Without a doubt, women dominate the public relations industry, but while we work hard to craft press releases, mitigate crises and keep our clients happy, pop culture often downgrades our role in the industry tonarcissistic fluff. The Cut released an article asking, Why Do We Treat PR Like A Pink Ghetto? and the short answer is, because we haven’t educated society on the work we really do. Yes, we plan and execute great events featuring the who’s-who of politics and entertainment and place stories about important shifts in policy -but the truth is we put in long hours of honest relationship building, research and negotiation to make it happen. As women continue to dominate the field, it’s vital for us to change our own narrative, and become confident and non-apologetic for the work we really produce and the change we bring to the industry.
