Ahead of the 115th Congress, which begins in January 2017, The New York Times’ Thomas Kaplan and Matt Flegenheimer will be moving to Washington, D.C. to join the Times’ congressional team. Both Kaplan and Flegenheimer began their careers at the Times as interns.

Flegenheimer also covered the 2016 campaign including presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and John Kasich, vice president elect Mike Pence, and briefly covered now president-elect Donald Trump. Previously, he covered transit and City Hall in New York and as a Times intern he even reported on runaway animals.
