The New York Times announced that political writer Jim Rutenberg has been named the paper’s next media columnist. He is set to take on his new role in the coming weeks. Prior to this announcement, Rutenberg was a media reporter for the New York Observer and covered politics for the Times before becoming chief political correspondent for The New York Times Magazine. Rutenberg fills a prestigious void at the Times after influential media columnist David Carr passed away in February 2015. New York Times Business Editor Dean Murphy and Executive Editor Dean Banquet joined the chorus of congratulations for Mr. Rutenberg, saying Jim is “returning to his media roots!” in their announcement.
Mr. Rutenberg started his journalism career with the New York Daily News and later worked for the New York Observer before joining the New York Times.
