After a decade at NBC News, most recently as senior producer and senior digital editor of Meet the Press, Shawna Thomas will take on a new role as Washington bureau chief for VICE News.

Thomas will oversee all of VICE News, both HBO shows and VICE digital. Though her hiring comes right as election season picks up, VICE is looking past November: Josh Tyrangiel, head of VICE’s news operations, emphasized that Thomas will focus heavily on telling “inventive” stories about “the federal government and how it works and why it doesn’t work,” POLITICO reported (link to POLITICO article).

During her ten years at NBC, aside from her time at Meet the Press, Thomas served as a producer for NBC’s White House, Capitol Hill and NextMedia teams. She was a part of the Emmy Award-winning Decision 2008 coverage team as well as two other Emmy Award-nominated teams.
